Did you know that eating food is actually a sport?
It's a type
of race in which people eat as quickly as they can, and it has a name
--competitive eating.
During matches, contestants are given a finite
period of time to scarf down hot dogs, pies, or pizza--even burgers!
The person who eats the most food before the timer stops, wins
a trophy, and usually a cash prize as well.
Sweet!

As such, just like other skilled athletes,
competitive eaters must practice as often as possible.

They train by drinking large amounts of water to incrementally,
and safely, stretch their stomachs.
Building jaw and throat muscle
strength is also needed.
However, most crucially, they must learn to
suppress the body's natural feeling of fullness and nausea reflexes.
If participants throw up during a competition, they lose.

While chowing down, as sport, may look like fun, it shouldn't
be tried at home.
This is due to the fact that eating too fast can
cause choking.
When competing, professional eaters always have
medical experts nearby, at the ready--in case something goes wrong
at an event.
It can be a fun sport to watch, both remotely and in
person.
But, normal meals should always be enjoyed slowly.
