"I am Lightning Boy!" bellowed Mateo, as he stood in the
center of his bedroom.
With one hand on his hip, he pointed toward
the ceiling.
Outside, snowflakes silently floated to the ground--
visible via the only window in the room.

Mateo waited a few beats before pivoting and swiping the
cape of his costume over his shoulder.
He peered down icily at his
stubborn pet cat, disapprovingly.
The animal yawned--resting
comfortably on the plush surface of Mateo's bed.
"That was
your cue, Mr. Whiskers!" lamented Mateo.

"Sorry," sighed the perturbed feline.
He halfheartedly reached
his small paw upward.
Then, he added, "The greatest superhero in
all the land!"
His words fell flat.
It was impossible to hide his total
disinterest in Mateo's play acting.
The kitten sensed the boy wasn't
happy with his performance.
So, he tried some misdirection.
"Do I
really have to wear this mask?
I look ridiculous."

"Yes!" replied Mateo.
The frustrated boy folded his arms over
his chest, furrowed his brows, and frowned.
"I'm wearing one.
See?"
Mateo pointed to his face.
"And, you're my sidekick.
That means,
like it or not, you have to wear one too.
Got it?"

Mr. Whiskers rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Unless, of course, you want me to give you a bath in the toilet
again," said Mateo--grinning impishly.
"Just say the word."

"Meow, that's not very super of you," said Mr. Whiskers.
