The full moon shone brightly, as shadows danced over the
snowy tundra.
Two children, longtime friends, stepped outside their
tipis--into the wintry beyond.
A cheerful fire crackled softly nearby,
sending warm sparks into the cold air.
The fresh snowfall glittered
all around them like tiny stars in a vast universe.

Lacing his parka tightly, Nanuk grinned mischievously.
"How about we have a snowball fight?" he suggested.

Annik clapped her mittens together.
"Yes!
Let's do it!
This will
be so much fun!"
They both knelt down and eagerly began packing
snow into fluffy, round balls the size of their hands.

Nanuk stood up first and called out, "Watch this, Annik!"
With
a powerful throw, his snowball flew across the moonlight.

"You missed me!" laughed Annik.
She tossed one back that
landed with a soft puff on his parka, as it crumbled apart.

"Oh, it's on," Nanuk giggled, as he ran around the fire--chasing
after his friend.
Snowballs whizzed back and forth.
The fire popped
and hissed.
Their epic showdown continued for quite a spell, with
happy voices echoing over the frozen landscape.

After many throws, they both sat down near the warm fire--out
of breath and smiling.
The evening's meal, caribou stew, would soon
be ready.
"That was the best snowball fight yet," Nanuk said.

Annik nodded. "The moon made everything look so pretty
tonight."
They watched the flames dance, while warming up their
hands--making memories that would last a lifetime.
